Environmental exposures are increasingly recognized as major contributors to chronic health issues, yet many harmful chemicals still go undetected in routine assessments. Everyday products, agricultural practices, and industrial materials introduce a wide range of toxicants into our bodies, often with cumulative and long-term effects. Growing research links these exposures to disruptions in endocrine, metabolic, immune, and neurological function. Practitioners are increasingly understanding environmental toxicants as the missing piece to the puzzle in solving their patients’ chronic illnesses. As the burden of environmental toxicants rises, the need for more comprehensive, sensitive testing has never been greater.
At Mosaic Diagnostics, formerly known as Great Plains Laboratory, we have been leading the way in specialty diagnostics since 1995. From the beginning, our mission has always been focused on developing highly sensitive, game-changing assays. Our commitment to environmental toxicant testing started with the introduction of the GPL-TOX assay, a decade ago. We updated the profile further and reintroduced it as the TOXDetect Profile® (TOXDetect), offering enhanced sensitivity and coverage in July 2024.
Today, I am thrilled to announce the next evolution of TOXDetect. We are expanding TOXDetect to include eight additional analytes, increasing the profile from 19 to 27, giving practitioners the opportunity to make it their first line of defense against toxicants. This update is in direct response to feedback from our dedicated practitioners, who asked for broader coverage — particularly the inclusion of one of the most pervasive toxins, glyphosate.
Here’s what’s new:
- Glyphosate: the most widely used herbicide globally, now included and measured with the most sensitive LC/MS method, featuring updated reference ranges aligned with the latest NHANES data.
- Four key parabens: butylparaben (BuP), methylparaben (MeP), ethylparaben (EtP), and propylparaben (PrP).
- Oxybenzone (OBZ): a UVA protector commonly found in sunscreens and personal products.
- Bisphenol A (BPA): added alongside our existing Bisphenol S (BPS) for a more comprehensive bisphenol assessment.
- Atrazine Mercapturate (AM): a metabolite of the second most widely used pesticide in the U.S.
We remain resolute in our commitment to continually advancing TOXDetect — expanding its coverage and capabilities to meet the growing needs of practitioners. This latest update is part of our ongoing mission to deliver the most comprehensive environmental toxicant assessment available.
