Collection Instructions: Urine
Test Kit Contents
Start by identifying these elements of your test kit. If you are missing or have expired components, contact Mosaic Customer Service at 800-288-0383.
- Test kit box
- Silver thermo bag
- Ice pack (place flat in freezer immediately)
- Clear biohazard zip-lock bag
- Absorbent packing sheet
- Vial (Amino acids only)
- Collection cup (empty cup)
- Shipping laboratory pak
Precaution
Amino acids only. Keep the kit contents out of the reach of children and pets. Do not spill preservative fluid in the vials and avoid contact with skin or eyes. For eye contact flush with water thoroughly for 15 minutes. For skin contact wash thoroughly with soap and water. For accidental ingestion contact poison control immediately. Safety Data Sheets
Before You Start
- Plan to collect your first morning urine sample.
- Limit fluid intake after 6:00 pm the night prior to collection.
- Prior to bed, empty your bladder. Upon waking, collect your urine prior to eating or drinking. Ensure that it has been at least 6 hours since you emptied your bladder.
- A diluted urine sample may be inadequate for analysis and may be rejected.
- Samples visibly contaminated with blood (red, pink, or brown in color) will be rejected.
- Consult your healthcare provider before stopping any medications. Discontinuing supplements three days prior to specimen collection is recommended unless otherwise directed by your provider.
- Samples must be shipped Monday through Thursday (outside the US: Monday or Tuesday). If you collect on the weekend, hold the specimen until Monday to ship.
Preparing For Your Test
Important: Do not discontinue medications or supplements without first consulting your healthcare practitioner.
Test Requirements

| Organic Acids Test (OAT) and Microbial Organic Acids Test (MOAT) | Minimum 10 mL. For 48 hours before collection avoid apples, grapes, raisins, pears, cranberries, and their juices/products; also avoid arabinogalactan, echinacea, reishi mushrooms, and ribose supplements. Wait 48 hours after finishing antibiotics. |
| MycoTOX Profile | Minimum 10 mL. Fasting for 12 hours may increase excretion of mycotoxins from adipose tissue (not required). At least 3 days prior, avoid glutathione, charcoal, bentonite clay, or similar binders. Samples cannot be tested for patients currently taking Mycophenolate (CellCept/Myfortic) — consult your practitioner. |
| TOXDetect | Minimum 10 mL. If taking Cephalexin (Keflex) wait at least 4 days after the last dose. |
| Glyphosate | Minimum 10 mL. No special prep. |
| Calcium + Magnesium | Minimum 10 mL. No special prep. |
| Metals Urine (random) | Minimum 10 mL. It is recommended to omit fish and shellfish for one week prior to collection. If an MRI with gadolinium-based media was administered, wait at least 96 hours before collecting. |
| Amino Acids Urine Test | Minimum 10 mL. Discontinue amino acid supplements 48 hours prior. If on antibiotics, finish course and wait 48 hours. Pour urine into white-top vial to the fill line; leave 5 mL in the cup. Tighten both lids and invert vial 5 times to mix. Freeze both until shipment. |
After Collection
- Screw lid on specimen container tightly.
- Freeze urine specimen for a minimum of 4 hours before shipping. Keep in freezer until ready to ship.
Let’s Get Started
- Complete the barcode sticker AND the specimen containers by writing patient name, date of birth, and collection date. Disregard “Medical Records Number”.
- Place the barcode sticker on specimen containers, ensuring written information remains visible. Use blue or black ball-point pen only — do not use felt-tip pens or dry-erase markers.
- Note: Unlabeled samples will be rejected.
- Collect a first morning urine specimen and follow storage instructions in the table above.
Preparing the Package
- Ensure frozen specimen(s) are labeled and tightly sealed. Check the box indicating it has been frozen.
- Place specimen(s) and absorbent packing sheet into the biohazard zip-lock bag and seal.
- Place sealed biohazard bag and frozen ice pack into the silver thermo bag and seal.
- Place the filled silver thermo bag into the test kit box and close the lid.
- Locate the shipping instruction card for details on how to ship.
- Samples must be shipped Monday through Thursday (outside the US: Monday or Tuesday). If you collect on the weekend, hold the specimen until Monday to ship.

Turnaround: Your test results will be delivered to your healthcare practitioner within 2–3 weeks after Mosaic Diagnostics receives the sample(s). Your practitioner will review results and discuss next steps. Mosaic Diagnostics personnel cannot discuss test results directly with patients or family members.
