The DUST Test
Test Kit Contents
Start by identifying these elements of your test kit. If you are missing or have expired components, contact Mosaic Customer Service at 800-288-0383.
- Test kit box
- Instruction card
- Plastic gloves
- Sterile cotton wipe
- Ziploc sample bag
- Prepaid mailer envelope
Before You Start
Be sure to collect enough dust. A minimum of 5mg of dust is required for the sample to be processed. If the cloth is not collecting enough dust, wait longer for dust to accumulate (see instructions in test kit for visuals). If a deep cleaning or mold remediation has recently been performed, it is recommended to wait 6–8 weeks before collecting the sample to ensure meaningful results. If insufficient dust is collected, laboratory analysis cannot be performed, and a new kit will need to be purchased for recollection.
Some substances such as rust, drywall dust, and more intensive cleaning chemicals can inhibit laboratory analysis. It is best to avoid including those in the sample, and we recommend avoiding bathrooms and kitchens, and cleaning after any construction or renovation. If inhibitors are detected, the lab will not run the test and there would be the option to recollect the sample.
Let’s Get Started
- Put on the plastic gloves to avoid cross-contamination.
- Remove the collection cloth from its sealed packaging.
- Wipe up dust with the cloth from surfaces throughout your home.
- Wipe up as much dust as possible, ideally covering the entire collection cloth on both sides. (If you have recently cleaned, wait for more dust to accumulate before testing.)
- With the collection cloth now covered in dust, place it inside the included ziploc bag and seal it tightly.
- Place your ziploc bag into the prepaid mailer envelope and drop it off.
