Patient Opportunity
David, a 2½-year-old patient with neurodevelopmental regression, presented with severe autism, no connection to the environment, and marked aggressiveness. Using MosaicDX’s Organic Acids Test, multiple affected areas were identified, including elevated levels of 4-cresol associated with Clostridium difficile, neurotransmitter alterations, mycotoxins from Aspergillus, elevated levels of arabinose, and oxalates, as well as disruptions at the mitochondrial level in the Krebs cycle and fatty acids.
Approach
Having a clear understanding of the different variables and the patient’s actual condition, to establish an individualized treatment in accordance with the results, is the foundation for achieving outcomes. Treatment for dysbiosis was initiated, leading to the disappearance of aggressiveness, improved sleep quality and better eye contact. The study was complemented with DNA methylation testing, and guided supplementation was started. An exclusion and rotation diet were implemented based on the findings to decrease the immune response at the intestinal level and control inflammation and intestinal permeability
Results
Through individualized supplementation with minerals and vitamins focused on the metabolic adjustment of the methylation and transsulfuration cycles of methionine, the urea cycle and the Krebs cycle, overall cellular function was improved. Currently, David is once again beginning to use verbal language, has clear eye contact and communicative intent, responds to his name, and understands simple commands. Aggressiveness has disappeared.
